Deinognatha (lit. "terrible jaws") are a clade of Synischia.
A clade of Synishia, Deinognatha first emerged around 4212ma. The first Deinognathans (known today as the Eudeinognathans) were the apex predators within the primitive forests spanning TIRA 292b's supercontinent, and remain the top predators of the surviving woodlands.
Unlike the other branches of Osteopoda, the Deinognathans did not adapt to life on the steppe, as their inflexible skeleton and large size made them ineffective predators in open environments. However, radiations of Deinognatha have come to flourish in semiaquatic and aquatic environments, far more than any other clade of Osteopoda.
