Titanopoda first appeared around 4233ma, evolving from a steppe-dwelling clade of Megalobrachidae. This clade eventually diverged into two branches around 4241ma.
At a minimum of 3 meters high, the Titanopods represent the largest animals yet seen. Their legs are more upright compared to earlier Megalobrachids, a result of their increased size and weight. Titanopods are herbivorous, although the Baropoda branch have shifted to a grazer lifestyle rather than the ancestral browser lifestyle.
